Drea, Andy & Mylah in New Ulm, MN

I am a born and raised Minnesotan. I have to practice saying the word “bag” (not baaayg,) still have an ice scraper in my trunk, despite the fact that I live in Florida where they close the town if it gets below 50 degrees, and know the perfect remedy for mosquito bites. I understand how precious the few days of summer around Lake Calhoun are and how delightful and valuable sunshine is to the population. At one time, I wanted to build my own Milk Carton Boat for the races and I take pride in the fact that Southdale was the first mall ever built. I know that the Mall of America is a waste of time if you really want to shop and that the great Minnesota Get Together is just a reason to spend a fortune on Get Fat Quick on a stick. However, I must clarify that I am a Minnesota City Girl.

I recently traveled 90 miles to the small town of New Ulm, MN to photograph a session for a friend of mine. This is a whole different kind of Minnesota. It’s a place where the only traffic comes from combines (a big machine that harvests grain) snailing from one end of town to the other and where directions are given by how far your turn is from the John Deere dealership. It’s a community where you know all your neighbors and every house has it’s own character. It’s a community built without cookie cutters and it’s a perfect place for Drea and Andy to start their own family.

Drea, is a good friend of mine who has an accent straight out of the movie Fargo but is maybe the sweetest girl in all of Southwestern Minnesota and also a talented photographer. Check out her work at Images by Drea and MiAmore Imagery. Drea, thank you so much for having me come out to your part of town and spending the day with me. It was so great to meet your little Mylah. She’s just as sweet as you are. Hope you enjoy the album!
