5d Mark iii and Minneapolis

This is my new camera.  Modern Joy friends, meet the Canon 5d Mark iii.  While I still believe that a good photographer can create art with any camera, I also believe that this new camera will expand the situations for which I am able to shoot professionally.

What does that mean?  Well, this camera has more than double the iso that my current camera.  What that translates into is that I can shoot later in the day, in darker spaces such as a clients home or nursery, candlelight scenarios, dark and intimate restaurants, etc.  That’s pretty exciting.  Before, I was limited to situations with a decent amount of light, now I am able to shoot images that previously I couldn’t shoot without flash because there just wasn’t enough light.

The new focusing system is amazing.  My previous camera had 41 focusing points and one program mode for continual auto-focus, this new camera has 61 focus points and several continual focus modes…actually it has so many that I need to read the manual to figure out how to appropriately use them.  What this means for clients is that all of those action shots such as you chasing your little one with a giddy smile across his face through  the yard, I’m able to capture that moment more precisely.  This is exciting news.  Now, Modern Joy will be able to do even more in capturing life in those fleeting moments.

In addition, I will be in Minneapolis for 1 week.  Minneapolis has a special place in my heart.  I will alway say baaaag and ruff (roof) and I love MN summer more than any other place that I’ve been.  I’ll be in town May 3-11th and have a few spots left open to book additional shoots.  Be sure to contact us if you’re interested in booking a session.  I get to shoot in my hometown with a bangin new camera.  Yipee!
